Tarn is a French department located in the inland south of the country, sitting within the larger administrative region of Occitania. It shares borders with the departments of Aude, Aveyron, Haute-Garonne, Hérault, and Tarn-et-Garonne.
Property in Tarn is generally cheap compared to the French average. The bulk of the housing stock is concentrated in the two main towns of Albi and Castres, which together hold far more of the market than any other municipality. While these two major centres are priced slightly below the regional average, the cost of property varies significantly elsewhere. Buyers will find the most expensive homes in Rabastens and Cordes-sur-Ciel, where prices are much higher than the norm for the department. By contrast, the industrial and working towns of Carmaux and Mazamet offer the most affordable housing in the region, with prices sitting well below those of the main urban centres.
