Allier is a department of France located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The territory is bordered by the departments of Creuse, Cher, Nièvre, Saône-et-Loire, Loire, and Puy-de-Dôme. Its physical terrain rises to its highest point at the Puy de Montoncel.
The local housing market is cheap compared to the rest of France. Vichy holds far more of the housing stock than any other town in the department, with prices sitting close to the regional average. Montluçon contains the next largest concentration of homes, where properties are much cheaper. Moulins, Bellerive-sur-Allier, and Cusset account for much smaller shares of the market, yet these three towns are the most expensive places to buy in the department, with Bellerive-sur-Allier commanding the highest prices of all.
