Santarém is an inland district of Portugal, situated in the central part of the country. It shares borders with the districts of Leiria, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Évora, Setúbal, and Lisbon. The region is administrative in nature, serving as both a district and an electoral unit.
The housing market in Santarém is generally cheap compared to the rest of Portugal. The district's housing stock is distributed relatively evenly across several towns rather than being concentrated in a single major city. The capital town of Santarém holds the largest share of the housing, followed closely by Tomar and Entroncamento. While prices in Tomar, Entroncamento, and Abrantes sit below the regional average, the capital itself is more expensive. Benavente, despite holding less of the housing stock, is by far the most expensive town in the district, with prices that are significantly higher than those in the capital.
