Costa del Sol Occidental is a coastal comarca of Andalusia, situated in the Malaga province of southern Spain. It occupies a narrow strip of Mediterranean coastline, bordered inland by the mountainous Serranía de Ronda. The terrain rises steeply from the sandy beaches of the coast to the rugged foothills of the mountains behind.
This is an exceptionally expensive region to buy property compared to the Spanish average. The bulk of the housing stock is concentrated in Marbella, Estepona, and Mijas. Marbella is the most prominent of these, with prices that sit far above the regional average. By contrast, Benahavís holds only a small sliver of the market but is by far the most expensive place to buy in the area. More affordable options, where prices fall well below the regional average, can be found in the coastal towns of Mijas, Fuengirola, and Torremolinos.
