Groningen is a province of the Netherlands located in the northeastern corner of the country. It shares borders with the Dutch provinces of Friesland and Drenthe, as well as the German state of Lower Saxony and the districts of Leer and Emsland.
Housing in this province is generally cheap compared to the rest of the Netherlands. The city of Groningen holds most of the housing stock, far more than anywhere else in the region, with prices that sit right at the regional average. Midden-Groningen and Westerkwartier hold the next largest concentrations of homes. Westerkwartier is the most expensive of these main residential areas, while Midden-Groningen is slightly cheaper. Further east, Stadskanaal offers some of the least expensive housing in the province, with prices falling well below the regional average.
