The Region of Banská Bystrica is an administrative region of Slovakia, sharing a southern border with Hungary's Nógrád County and Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. It also borders the Slovak regions of Košice, Prešov, Nitra, Trenčín, and Žilina. The physical terrain of the region is highly elevated, rising to its highest point at the peak of Ďumbier.
Property in the Region of Banská Bystrica is generally cheap compared to the Slovak average. The regional capital, Banská Bystrica, holds far more of the housing stock than any other municipality, and its homes are priced well above the regional average. Zvolen and Lučenec also contain notable shares of the local housing. While industrial and agricultural towns like Žiar nad Hronom and Rimavská Sobota offer much cheaper property, the historic town of Banská Štiavnica is the most expensive place to buy in the region, with prices that are double the regional average.
