Pyrénées-Orientales is a French department located in the southern part of the Occitania region. It sits on the Mediterranean coast and shares a land border with the French departments of Ariège and Aude, as well as the Spanish provinces of Girona and the Province of Lleida. The terrain of the department is defined by this coastal position and its location along the eastern Pyrenees mountain range.
The department is generally cheaper for property than the French national average. Perpignan holds far more of the housing stock than any other municipality, offering the most affordable homes in the region. Coastal and resort towns account for much of the remaining market, though their prices vary significantly. Canet-en-Roussillon and Port-Vendres are the most expensive places to buy, with prices sitting well above the regional average. In contrast, Le Barcarès is much cheaper, while Argelès-sur-Mer, Alénya, and Saint-Cyprien offer housing priced closer to the department average.
