Vila Real is an inland district of northern Portugal, bordering the Spanish province of Ourense to the north and the Portuguese districts of Bragança, Viseu, Porto, and Braga. This administrative region covers a mountainous and rugged terrain in the interior of the country.
Property in the Vila Real district is generally cheap compared to the Portuguese average. Most of the housing stock is concentrated in the municipalities of Chaves and the district capital of Vila Real. These two main urban areas differ significantly in price, with the city of Vila Real being the most expensive place to buy in the region, while Chaves remains closer to the regional average. Smaller, more rural municipalities like Montalegre and Valpaços hold far less of the market and are much cheaper. Conversely, Peso da Régua stands out as another high-priced pocket, with housing costs nearly matching those of the capital.
