Lisbon is an administrative district and electoral unit in Portugal, bordering the districts of Leiria, Santarém, and Setúbal. The region sits along the Atlantic coast and the Tagus estuary, spanning a territory of coastal plains and hills. As a primary administrative division of the country, it contains the national capital and several surrounding municipalities.
The district is a particularly expensive part of Portugal to buy property. Most of the housing stock is concentrated in the city of Lisbon itself, where prices sit close to the regional average. Outside the capital, Cascais holds the next largest share of homes and is by far the most expensive municipality in the district, with prices more than double the regional average. Oeiras and Mafra also command premium prices, while Sintra, Loures, and Amadora offer more affordable options, with prices falling well below the average for the region.
