Leiria is a Portuguese district and electoral unit situated along the Atlantic Ocean coastline. This western region shares borders with the districts of Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Santarém, and Lisbon. The terrain stretches from the sandy coastal beaches inland towards the mountainous borders of the Portuguese interior.
The district is slightly cheaper for property than the Portuguese average, though prices vary significantly between its main towns. The city of Leiria holds the largest share of the housing stock, followed by Caldas da Rainha and Alcobaça. While the city of Leiria itself is priced just below the regional average, Caldas da Rainha is more expensive. The historic town of Óbidos holds a much smaller portion of the market but is by far the most expensive place to buy in the district, with prices that far exceed those in the working and industrial towns of Pombal and Marinha Grande.
