Castelo Branco is an administrative district and electoral unit located in the interior of Portugal. It shares borders with the Portuguese districts of Guarda, Leiria, Santarém, Portalegre, and Coimbra, as well as the Cáceres Province of Spain to the east. The terrain of this inland region is defined by its border position and its position within the mountainous and rural landscape of central Portugal.
The housing market in Castelo Branco is cheap compared to the rest of Portugal, with average prices sitting at less than half of the national average. Most of the housing stock is concentrated in three main municipalities: Covilhã, Castelo Branco, and Fundão. Covilhã holds the largest share of homes in the region, followed closely by the district capital of Castelo Branco, which is also the most expensive of the major towns. In contrast, Fundão offers a substantial amount of housing at much lower prices. Smaller municipalities like Sertã and Belmonte maintain relatively high property prices, while Idanha-a-Nova and Penamacor are among the most affordable places to buy in the district.
