The Azores is an autonomous region of Portugal, situated as an archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean. This mountainous territory rises to its highest point at Mount Pico. The region is home to the University of the Azores, which has its campus facilities established within the islands.
Most of the housing stock in the Azores is concentrated in Ponta Delgada, which holds far more of the market than anywhere else. Ribeira Grande is the only other town with a double-digit share of the region's properties. While overall sale prices in the Azores are aligned almost exactly with the national average for Portugal, costs vary between individual municipalities. Vila Franca do Campo is the most expensive location for property, followed closely by Ponta Delgada, Lagoa, and Ribeira Grande. In contrast, Nordeste is the cheapest municipality in the region, with Vila do Porto and Povoação also offering properties well below the regional average.
