Vélez-Málaga is a city and municipality in southern Spain, located within the Axarquía region of the Malaga province, in the wider autonomous community of Andalusia. Situated at an elevation of 60 metres, the city sits just inland from the Mediterranean Sea. The local economy and transport links are supported by the nearby La Axarquía Airport, and the city maintains a formal twin-town relationship with Melilla.
The municipality contains several distinct residential areas and neighbourhoods, which include districts such as El Tomillar and La Viña. These districts differ in their local character and positioning, ranging from the inland urban centre of Vélez-Málaga itself to the coastal developments that sit directly on the Mediterranean Sea.
