Biscay is a Spanish province and Basque historical territory located in the northern part of the country. It is defined by its coastline along the Cantabrian Sea and its mountainous interior, rising to its highest point at Gorbea. The territory shares land borders with the provinces of Gipuzkoa, Álava, the Province of Burgos, and Cantabria Province.
The housing market is concentrated heavily in Bilbao, which holds far more of the region's homes than any other municipality. Property prices across Biscay are slightly lower than the average for Spain, but costs vary significantly between individual towns. Getxo and Sopela are the most expensive locations in the province, with prices that sit well above the regional average. In contrast, industrial and working towns along the estuary like Barakaldo and Portugalete offer much cheaper housing, with prices falling far below those found in Bilbao or the affluent coastal areas.
