Castile and León is an autonomous community of Spain, situated in the north-western part of the country. It is a vast, landlocked region that shares a border with several other Spanish territories, including Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, La Rioja, Aragon, Castile-La Mancha, and the Community of Madrid. The terrain rises to its highest point at Torre Cerredo.
The region is a very cheap part of Spain to buy property, with average prices sitting at less than half the national average. Its housing stock is widely dispersed, though Salamanca holds the largest individual share, followed closely by Valladolid and León. These three major cities, along with Burgos, are the most expensive places to buy a home in the region, with prices in all four sitting well above the regional average. By contrast, smaller municipalities like Ponferrada and Población de Arroyo offer much more affordable options, where homes cost significantly less than the regional average.
