Gijón is a coastal city in the Asturias region of northern Spain, situated along the Cantabrian Sea. Located on a low-lying terrain just ten metres above sea level, it is administratively classified as a council of Asturies. The city serves as a major economic and population hub for the region, with its development and local character closely tied to its position on the coast.
Property in Gijón is generally cheap compared to the rest of Spain. The largest share of the local housing stock is concentrated in El Centro, which is also the most expensive district in the city. Other major residential areas include El Llano and La Calzada, where housing is much more affordable. While the central district of El Centro and the coastal neighbourhood of L'Arena command above-average prices, inland districts such as Ceares and Pumarín offer far cheaper alternatives for residents.
