South Holland is a province of the Netherlands, situated on the North Sea coast in the western part of the country. It shares land borders with North Holland, Utrecht, Gelderland, North Brabant, and Zeeland. The terrain is characterised by the low-lying coastal plains and river deltas typical of this part of the Dutch coast.
The vast majority of the housing stock in the province is concentrated in the major cities of Rotterdam and The Hague, which together hold far more of the market than any other municipalities. Overall, property prices in South Holland sit exactly in line with the national average, though costs vary between individual cities and towns. Rotterdam and The Hague are priced close to the regional average, while smaller cities like Dordrecht, Vlaardingen, and Schiedam are much cheaper. Conversely, the more rural and coastal municipalities of Westland and Hoeksche Waard are the most expensive places to buy in the province.
