Nijmegen is a city in the Gelderland region of the Netherlands, situated on the Waal river and the Maas-Waal Canal. It lies on slightly elevated terrain near the German border. As a major municipal centre, its local economy and intellectual life are anchored by Radboud University, which shapes the city's character and institutions.
The local housing market is slightly cheaper than the Dutch national average, though prices vary significantly between neighbourhoods. The largest share of the city's housing is concentrated in the Stadscentrum, where homes are relatively affordable compared to the city average. In contrast, the substantial housing stock in Biezen and Hof van Holland commands much higher prices, making them some of the more expensive districts. Pockets of housing also exist in Galgenveld and Oosterhout, while the smaller, historic Benedenstad district by the riverfront offers some of the least expensive housing in the city.
