Meissen is a rural district in the Saxony region of eastern Germany. It shares a border with several other Saxon districts, including Bautzen District, Mittelsachsen District, and the city of Dresden, as well as the neighbouring state of Brandenburg to the north. The district covers a varied landscape that spans the Elbe river valley, sitting at an average elevation of 177 metres.
Property buyers find that Meissen is a relatively cheap district compared to Germany as a whole. The housing stock is distributed across several small towns and municipalities rather than being concentrated in a single major city. The town of Meissen itself holds the largest portion of the local housing market, closely followed by Radebeul and Riesa. Prices vary significantly between these areas. While Riesa offers more affordable housing, the town of Meissen and nearby Radebeul are more expensive. The most expensive homes in the district are found in Moritzburg, where property values are much higher than the regional average, whereas Großenhain offers some of the most budget-friendly options.
