The Leipzig District is a rural district of Saxony, located in the east of Germany. It surrounds the city of Leipzig, which it borders alongside the Nordsachsen District, Mittelsachsen District, Altenburger Land, Burgenlandkreis, and Saalekreis. The region sits in a low-lying landscape, with an average elevation of just over one hundred metres.
The housing stock of the district is spread across several small towns, with Grimma and Borna holding the largest shares of local homes. Property in the Leipzig District is generally cheaper than the German national average, though prices vary significantly between individual municipalities. Borsdorf is by far the most expensive place to buy a home in the region, with prices sitting at more than double the district average. Markkleeberg and Markranstädt also stand out as pricier locations, while Grimma and Lossatal represent some of the more affordable options for buyers.
