Northern Friesland is a rural district in the northernmost German state of Schleswig-Holstein. It occupies a low-lying coastal terrain on the North Sea, stretching to the Danish border and rising to its highest point at Sandesberg. The district shares its land borders with the Schleswig-Flensburg District and Dithmarschen.
This is a expensive part of Germany to buy property, though prices vary wildly between the mainland and the islands. The largest share of the housing stock sits on the island of Sylt, which is also a highly priced location, especially in Kampen (Sylt) where homes cost over twice the regional average. Braderup and Wyk auf Föhr also command premium prices. By contrast, mainland towns hold smaller shares of the market and are far more affordable. Husum, Garding, and Leck offer much cheaper housing, with prices in Leck falling to a fraction of those found on the islands.
